The Ultimate List of the Best Museums in the World

World’s Best Museums  Visiting a new country can be exciting yet overwhelming experience.  There is art, culture, history, architecture, music, design and science that are all waiting to be learned and explored in cities and towns throughout the world.  A museum can provide a glimpse into local life, or provide education on a broader level. I think museums are a way to get a glimpse of the view of a country. Small, local museums even more-so, they show how they perceive themselves and the rest of the world. Get out to a museum near you, open your eyes and enrich your minds.  Doing some research to choose an interesting museum…

22 Best Drinks Around the World: Travel Spots to Quench Your Thirst

Best Drinks Around the World One way to really get to know a place is to drink and eat.  The best cocktails around the world are ones that have local ingredients or has a history or tradition unlike anywhere else.  When you drink these drinks, you should be transported directly back to your vacation. I’ve included both boozy and non alcoholic suggestions so everyone can go gulp. Whiskey in Scotland The Scots know their whiskies.  Two things to remember about Scotch, it’s made from malted Barley and don’t add an “e” in Scottish Whisky. Want to try Scotland’s “other national drink”? Often when I’m in another country I love checking…

18 of the World’s Best Beaches

The earth is made up of over 70% water and almost 95% of that water is made up of oceans. With all that surf and sand, there are countless choices of beaches and as a self proclaimed beach bum, I’ve encounter many. Here is a round up of 18 of the world’s best beaches according to Speck on the Globe. Zanzibar Wow. That may be the first and only exclamation you’ll need to describe this Tanzanian island. It’s totally unique with Swahili & Islamic influences that help to shape the spice trade routes from long ago. For the size there are dozens of sweet spots, don’t forget to spend some…

Best Destinations for Responsible Wildlife Vacations

Responsible Wildlife Vacations Wildlife destinations are some the of most popular places to vacation, seeing animals you don’t find in your backyard can easily be the top priority when planning a trip.  There are locations at all ends of the globe to learn more about different species and see more wildlife.  The important part before taking that dream trip is making sure you’ve booked a sustainable tour and ethically responsible tourism along with animal welfare should be the highest priority to ensure the animals we are wanting to see will be around in the future.  Here is a list of my top places to find responsible wildlife vacations. Culinary Chariots: A Bangkok Street Food Tour

The city of Bangkok is a lot like your first ride in a tuk tuk.  She’s a unique, speedy vessel that isn’t always glamorous but will whiz you around, showing you one wild ride.  It’s a fitting vehicle then for a tour exploring food stands and iconic dishes of the city, whipping you around on a wonderful journey.  Buffalo Tours offers a great Bangkok street food guided tour in Thailand that takes you on an evening ride through town that you and especially your stomach won’t soon forget.  Seeing how locals live and more importantly eat with a small group is the best way to truly experience how “foodcentric” Bangkok…

Snapshot Sunday: Flower Market of Bangkok

The powerful fragrance of the Jasmine flowers masks the scent wafting from the bustling streets that run along Pak Khlong Talat, Bangkok’s famous flower market.  With a liveliness parallel to the rest of the city, the workers and passer-byes throng the heaps of flowers like swarms of pollinating bees.  Because the venue is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week there is an amazing amount of quotidian activities surrounding the business exchanges around them.  Even something as simple as playing a quick game of Makruk, or Thai chess can be an interesting event to observe and I find it’s markets like these that offer a fantastic glimpse into…

Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary & My Week in the Forest

I lay still in the darkness, my eyes sleepy, my ears still awake listening to the unfamiliar sounds of the forest around me.  Chirping, creaking and the rustling of leaves around the stilts of the hut.  Occasionally the echoed sound of a lizard, “ggggecko” reverberated in my ear, the noise so close it could have been resting on my shoulder.  The humming of the generator stopped and all had gone black so I knew it was after 10pm.  In the corner of my little hut, enveloped by a pink mosquito net that encircled my bed, the night so quiet and black that it was almost too peaceful to sleep.  Unable…

A Thai Tale: The story of Lady Mook and Lady Chan

When I was visiting Thailand, we kept passing a statue to and from sightseeing in Phuket that immediately peaked my interest.  It was two women, both stern-faced with their swords raised, holding hands and looking off into the distance. There are always flowers adorning the base and small offerings are often left to honor these two women.  I became curious about the pair after seeing them after a few days of driving on the island and finally into our second week I decided to ask our driver if he knew of their significance. “It’s a wonderful story of courage and friendship that has become a symbol of the people of…

    My Favorite Moments of 2014

2014, what a whirlwind!  I had several one of a kind experiences this year and I think I spent a lot of time pinching myself making sure I wasn’t dreaming, exploring new places, meeting new friends and enjoying life has a way of seeming unreal.  It has been a treat to go through TONS of photos of the past year and I’ve collected a few to share some of the stand outs. My day as a Maltese falconer By far and away one of my more favorite memories of this year.  While in Malta I decided to take the Maltese Falcon story to the next level and go to the…
